Grassroot boxing Promotions, a bengaluru based boxing promotions company founded by former Indian amateur boxer Mujtaba Kamal, has achieved a significant milestone by reaching 1 million views on their Instagram page. This achievement highlights the growing interest in boxing within India and the possibilities that come with positioning  Indian Boxing as an entertainment option.

At a recently held show in Bengaluru, Grassroot Boxing Promotions collaborated with International boxing promoter, Payam Honari’s Crown Boxing Promotions in bringing world class boxing to the young and burgeoning Bengaluru boxing fans.

The co-promoted event was able to sell out the entire venue in time for the first bell on a weekend that already had a lot of international sport activities lined up on popular TV channels across the country.

Over 700 spectators paid their way into the packed venue, filling the General seating and VIP sections. By the start of the 3rd bout of the evening, the standing areas were getting filled too, clearly demonstrating a fan connect with the athletes and the sport rarely seen for boxing in India.

This event signifies a potential turning point for the sport in the country, where cricket and football generally make up the sporting action for the weekend entertainment landscape.

The  fight card featured a WBC India title fight and a WBC Youth World title fight as its main events, adding to the excitement and drawing power. Well-known Indian boxer Neeraj Goyat made a guest appearance, further elevating the event’s profile and attracting fans.

Most of my audience is from - India, Middle East and South East Asia. These numbers clearly signify the growing demand for Indian boxers and Indian boxing content from these developed boxing economies.

Fight Night Highlights:

  • Laldinsanga (8-0-0) of Mizoram beat Michael Decardi Nelson (8-1-1) of Ghana in an 8-round points decision to win the WBC Youth World Title in the Bantamweight division.

Boxing in India

Grassroot Boxing Promotions is well on its way to become a knockout success in India, attracting large audiences and generating significant online interest. This success can be attributed to several key factors.

Firstly, the company’s focus on building Indian boxers through their boxing club fight series in Bangalore and Dubai over the past 5 years has created a group of good Indian boxers with good global boxing records and a devoted following. This initiative has inspired a new generation of aspiring boxers to flock to Bangalore, hoping to be noticed by the burgeoning boxing audience in the IT capital of the country.

Secondly, the high-quality event production, featuring exciting matchmaking and interspersed entertainment, has kept audiences captivated. The events have been praised as thoroughly enjoyable evenings of high-quality boxing and entertainment.

Grassroot Boxing’s recent achievement of reaching 1 million views on Instagram is a testament to the immense possibilities of the sport in a country that seems to adulate Cricketers and Bollywood stars as semi gods. This success story suggests a bright future for the sport in India, with Grassroot Boxing leading the charge.
