Dubai, June 16, 2022: Mizoram’s talented boxer NT Lalbiakkima will look to cement his place in history when he faces Jayson Vayson in his WBC Asia Continental Championship Light Flyweight title bout in Dubai on Friday.
Lalbiakkima, who turned pro in 2020, has remained undefeated in his 4 previous fights in the Asian Professional circuit. He has won all 4 fights by KO’s. This will be his fifth international fight and first title clash.
Friday’s fight is also the first step for Lalbiakkima towards reaching his ultimate goal of becoming a world champion, which was his late father’s dream.
Mizo Professional Boxing Sensation
Before turning professional in 2021, the 26-year-old Mizo boy had created history by defeating the then World No. 1 and Olympic gold medalist Hassanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan in the quarterfinal bout of Kazakhstan’s President Cup in 2018.
Lalbiakima, who will be facing Jayson for the first time admitted his opponent is tougher than the previous four he had faced, but the Mizo boy is confident of winning the clash.
“It is a very important fight for me. Jayson is a tough opponent, but I am confident and excited for the match. It is the beginning of fulfilling my late father’s dream, who wanted to see me become a world champion one day. This title bout will be the first step towards fulfilling his dream,” and emotional Lalbiakkima said.
Lalbiakkima’s father passed away last year and soon after his father’s death, the boxer decided to turn professional.

His opponent, Jayson is ranked fourth in the latest WBC Asia rankings, while Lalbiakkima is fifth. Jayson has played in 10 bouts and has won 9 of them with 5 KO’s.
Former National level Boxer, who turned coach and is now an international promoter, Roshan Nathanial of DJMC Boxing said Lalbiakkima is very confident about his bout.
“When I saw him last year, I saw the spark in him and decided to get him a chance to fight in the world circuit here in Dubai. A lot of important people in Boxing will be watching him on the 18th at the Dubai World Trade Centre, I want him to be a world champion as he has the caliber to beat tough opponents,” Roshan, the promoter of the fight, said.
The fightcard will feature eight bouts at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Friday. Another upcoming Mizo boxer, Laldingliana will also feature in a yet to be announced featherweight title bout against Alimzhan Tursunov of Kazhakstan.
