Latest Indian Boxing News : Boxing Men – NT Lalbiakkima Vs Jayson Vayson
Dubai, 19 June 2022: In an epic toe-to-toe encounter, Mizo boxer NT Lalbiakkima lost by a close Split decision to Filipino boxer Jayson Vayson in his quest for a WBC Asian Boxing Council’s Continental Light flyweight title last night at Dubai.
24-year-old Filipino Boxer Jayson Vayson, who is ranked 47th in the world handed Lalbiakkima the first loss of his 5 fight Pro career at the Dubai World Trade centre in a 10-round blockbuster.
Official Scores: Judge 1: 94-97 in favour of Vayson, Judge 2: 97 – 93 in favour of NT Lalbiakkima and Judge 3: 94 – 96 in favour of Vayson
The two combatants were out to get each other from the first bell and did not let up on the high-octane action throughout the 10 rounds.
The mizo boxer had a distinct height disadvantage and he tried to cover up for it with leaping jabs followed up with right hooks. Jayson, was clearly seeing this from a mile away and used his superior height and reach to keep Lalbiakkima at an arm’s length throughout the fight.
Having lost his advantage of more powerful punches, Lalbiakkima realized Jayson was not going down and was easily manoeuvring through the rounds with deft Jabs and simple combinations. Lalbiakkima, attempted to slow things down himself in the 5th round, but Jayson was far too technically accomplished and he seemed to take the cue and suddenly took the attack back to the Indian with aggressive right hooks and body blows that all landed where intended.
While, Lalbiakkima landed the heavier blows in the early rounds, Jayson peppered the Indian boxer with left jabs and clean combinations to win over the judges over the entirety of the 10-round contest.
Saturday’s defeat has come as a blow to the Indian boxer who had looked to use this fight as a platform to get more fights at the global stage.
The new WBC Asian light Flyweight continental champion, Jayson extended his undefeated record to 10 wins with a display of good counter attacking boxing throughout the 10 rounds.
The 26-year-old Lalbiakkima, needs to put this loss behind him and move ahead. He has the talent, what he may need is the superior coaching and boxing infrastructure that his opponent from Philippines possessed today.
Oksana Semenishina the WBC Supervisor for the contest said “This was a very good fight, Both boxers gave the maximum they could. The fact that it was a split decision at the end of 10 rounds, shows you the closeness of this bout. My congratulations to both fighters”!
