18 Oct 2022, New Delhi: Dehradun lad Varun Phartyal jumped up and down in the ring, having gone into the toughest bout of his career against a reigning WBC India Champion and come out as a winner on the Judges’ scorecards.
Phartyal beat Satnam Singh (Current WBC India Featherweight Champion) by a Majority decision (74-78, 76-76, 73-79) in Gurgaon on Saturday. This bout was not contested for the WBC India Title and hence Satnam retains his belt.

Varun Phartyal Vs Satnam Singh
By beating Satnam, Phartyal also made up for a previous loss against Satnam at Kullu in Oct 2021. Satnam, had won that day by a close Majority decision. The tables have turned!

Phartyal dominated the first part of the fight, coming out with an aggressive strategy along with a technical defense to keep Satnam’s quick punches at bay. Often throughout the fight, Satnam looked jaded and tired. He leaned on the ropes, potentially as a strategy to try to tire Phartyal out a little.
Phartyal landed more punches than Satnam in six of the 8 rounds and landed significantly more power punches in the first half of the fight.
SAURABH KUMAR WINS BY KO
In the co Main event of the night, current top dog in the Super Flyweight division Saurabh Kumar continued to dominate the division. Bulandshahr born Saurabh dominated Manjeet SIngh right from the get-go. In the first minute of the 3rd round a vicious right-hand hook sent Manjeet flying to the mat and prompted the referee to end the match.

Heli Tana Tara from Arunachal Pradesh won by Unanimous decision over Harish Singh. Heli improves to (2-0-0) while this was Harish’s first ever loss after two draws in his earlier fights.

Abhishek Pratap Singh (3-0-0) Vs Manish Ahlawat (4-3-1) was declared as a Majority draw with 2 Judges’ scoring the bout as a draw (57-57) and the 3rd Judge scoring the bout (56-58) in favour of Manish Ahlawat.
